New Profile Report: Competency to Stand Trial Evaluations: Use of State Hospitals, Community-Based, and Jail-Based Approaches

NRI’s Competency to Stand Trial Evaluations Profiles report highlights key findings related to adult competency to stand trial evaluations (CST) based on responses from 40 states to NRI’s Forensics Mental Health Services Component of State Profiles in the Spring of 2025. The report presents findings on the location of CST evaluations, statutes related to settings for CST evaluations, outcomes of CST evaluations, waitlists, and recent changes in competency evaluation policy and service initiatives.
